I just found an old SB Live cheap so I replaced my motherboard sound with it expecting it to fix the problems because it has HW mixing.
I still need to use:

echo "et.x86 0 0 direct" > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/oss
echo "et.x86 0 0 disable" > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0c/oss
lspci sees it as the EMU10K1 based SB Live card
0000:00:0c.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB Live! EMU10k1 (rev 07)
I read people saying that they didn't have to do anything to get this setup to work. I might have tried changing some files in order to get it to work with the on board sound. Should I still need to run these commands or is something setup incorrectly?
