View Full Version : [ubuntu] Computer Freezes Upon Startup

April 26th, 2009, 07:32 AM
I just did a clean install of 9.04 (had to use the alternate CD to get it to install) and upon booting, the screen freezes at the login window. I played around with hardware for about 5 mins to realize that after unplugging my wireless card (TRENDnet TEW-423PI) that I can boot just fine.

The main issue is that I can't plug in an ethernet jack. I know that I need ndiswrapper to make it work (it's how I got it to work in 8.04, 8.10) but I can't get to the point of installing a driver as the wireless card needs to be unplugged to boot. All previous versions of Ubuntu never gave me this issue (same exact hardware, etc) so it must be something new in 9.04. I've tried using Google and searching the forums for the past 4 hours and have yet to get it to work. I can't do the whole lspci thing as I can't boot while it's plugged in (so it obviously won't find the device).

Any ideas? I'm up for trying anything really to make it work.
