before xmas I've switched to amd64, and decided to try kubuntu breezy 64...

I spent weeks try to surf the web without annoyng messages ("should I download .swf?"), make kaffeine not to crash (the 64bit version seems much more unstable to me :(), update amule (no repository for 64bit :(), use cedega or wine...

I had to use back my old windows partition for dayly work and got so frustrated...

then yesterday I messed up thing with the shameful chroot ](*,) and lost my home directory (almost 10Gb of movies\pics\books\games not yet backupped )
before wipe out forever my linux partition I gave a last try to my old breezy32 with automatrix (since I used to have kubuntu I never used it before) and I've found back why I choose (k)ubuntu: get a working&performing linux desktop without wasting ages fighting with a keyboard... I love this distro :D

Yeah the 64 bit version is a bit raw, mostly cuz not many other things are 64 bit yet which sux. Glad that you didn't go back to Windows :)

For me the 64 bit versionis noticably faster....but it grates on you for a while what you have to chroot.

Personally I think that 64 bit Linux is miles ahead of 64 bit Windows though. More drivers and many good native programs. Not all of the 64 bit Windows IS 64 bit.

64 bit Linux is light years ahead of 64 bit Windows just think of SPARC machines (If I remember correctly those are 64bit) but on the normal desktop both are pretty raw since the 3rd party manufacturers hasn't gotten around to the 64bit thing yet ;)
