WarCraft III has to be one of the more popular games that is played under Wine. I cannot believe that this issue is STILL not resolved after a month +. I don't know how linux enthusiasts can go so long without playing their favorite games. Apparently no one has a work around from what I can tell so I guess it's time to switch back to windows.

It is a workaround, and it is a simple one. Just use an older version of wine. I use 1.1.5 and I have no problems.
Cheers!

I remember there was a patched WINE for bnet, but I don't remember the name, anyone got it?

For some reason I am using latest WINE and can still play in bnet, not like I do it that much, I am using the winehq builds if that helps?

I still can't get it run no matter what I try. Tried using winetricks. Tried several different versions including 1.1.15 etc. Must be related to what version of Ubuntu I'm running which is the latest 9.04.

Troll_the_Great & navisf: are you running 9.04 or an older version of Ubuntu?

Hey muscl3s I´m using the hardy heron version 8.04, and i've also turned off the desktop cube in compiz to get it working with no graphics problems.
Maybe you can post some pictures of your problem to get better help.

Man, go to the stable stone age with 1.0.1. Works sweet.
Just can't get full screen :(

I still can't get it to work. Tried disabling cube like you did but made no difference.

Try running WC3 with the argument -opengl. If you still have problems, I suggest also adding -window as an argument. It works for me on Wine 1.1.19, as Windows XP.

I'm having the exact same problem as you right now. I tried literally every version of wine and it keeps on showing that error when I log onto bnet. It doesn't happen right away, but after a couple of minutes, that happens.

Did you solve it yet? Does anyone know how to solve it? I'm also running on Jaunty.

CopiPaste over windows fonts(located like C:\Windows\Fonts) to to Wine into the same folder.
Remove Compiz. Beyond that i got little clues, worked without a flaw last time i played it.

Tried both of your suggestions. I still get the same crash.

I found the solution. May 5th, the release candidate for Windows 7 will be out free to the public and I'm ready to format and install it as soon as its available for download. Ubuntu is great but if you're primarily a gamer then it just isn't worth putting up with the bs. Warcraft is on the "platinum" list for wine yet I haven't been able to get it to run in a month+. My patience threshold has been reached. Back to Windows.
