I got a new laptop (Lenovo Y430) a month ago. Running Ubuntu 8.04 / 8.10 on it had been a nightmire for me for a month. It toke me more than 5 minutes just to boot.

Now, everyting is ok in 9.04.
Ubuntu is slick and grace as it used to be.

I agree that hardware support is generally much better in 9.04: the vast majority of my hardware worked great straight away with no fiddling around. Unfortunately, for whatever reason drivers for the ATI Radeon X1200 don't exist on 9.04 so I can't stay on it over 8.10: a graphics card that can run programs with demands similar to those of Google Earth is very important for me, and 8.10 offers that. Of course, I'd hop over to 9.04 in a heartbeat if I could get the drivers. ;)
