Hi there, wonder if anybody can help me. I've gone through various instructions about installing Microsoft Office 2003 under Wine in Ubuntu on my Acer Aspire One. I have an external USB had drive to install off as I don't have an external CD/DVD drive for a while.

I updated Wine to v1.1.19 today. The last set of instructions I followed can be found at: http://www.wine-reviews.net/microsoft/running-ms-office-2003-under-linux-with-wine.html

I would like to install Word only and follow the prompts. No problem until it installs. The progress indicator doesn't move, and about a minute after, it crashes. I copied and pasted information from the terminal but when I try put it in this post, I get a warning about using too many images, so can't include it. I've exhausted all avenue I've found in these forums and Google, and was hoping someone can shed some light on it.

With thanks
Chris

OK, it only took about 6 hours to work this out ... had to uninstall and re-install Wine, but 'regressing' to v 1.0.1, then nstalled word, voila. Will close this thread - hope it helps somebody out there.

I'll try remember - sorry, new to this. Dunno if I worked it out or stumbled on something. I removed Wine and deleted the repository, then re-installed it back to v 1.0.1. After that, it just installed. I was surprised to be honest. I don't know if this helps, but it definitely works under v1.0.1 without a hitch.

I installed from my original MS disk I bought when it first come out. I don't know much about iso, but what if you extract it to a USB stick or something and install from there? Or burn the iso to a disk then install? Sorry mate, new user here. Love to help where I can, but not exactly technically competent at the minute!
