I'm not an idiot, but I've been trying to install Hardy and now Jaunty for the past forever on my 08 white macbook. I cannot install the dumb thing because of these problems:

1. Here's the steps I take. First I use the Bootcamp assistant to make a 10GB Windows partition.
2. I install rEFIt.
3. I burn a live CD of 9.04, currently. I burned it at the slowest speed and multiple times, everything should be correct.
4. I inserted the CD and to be safe, shut down and restarted the computer.
5. REFIt came up and asked if I wanted to boot OSX or "Legacy OS from HD"
6. I choose the Legacy OS and I get the Ubuntu startup screen. I try without changes and two things have happened.
7. One is that I get a quick message that says something like "Assuming ASCP(?)-capable system. Error 5433934989(?). Not responding." Black screen.
8. Or I just recently got a screen that said "Non-system disc. Press any key to restart." That didn't work so I had to do a hard restart.

I have tried holding Alt and just get a black screen there too. I have tried multiple discs. I've synced the partition tables. I've tried the other thing I can't remember. I swear I've tried everything.

So what do I do?
