Ok this is one thing that i absolutely don't understand. Why would any MMO chose to use this horrible piece of software. Most of the games i've seen only work with windows 95-XP.
That's it only those versions of Windows so the company would then be limiting their potential constumers by nearly 1/8th. I say it like that because as i understand it from teh average consumer they just buy a laptop or pc. It comes with Vista and has came with vista for ~2yrs+ now. I know some laptops and PCs still had XP on them.Also this horrible software makes it so that no one can play on MAC OSX or Linux. So then you're limiting the potential users to people with PCs that are older quality or someone who wishes to use XP or an older OS.
I understand that GameGuard prevents "hacking" and "cheating" of the game. Even though i doubt if it truly works 100% as well anyone who's tech savy and really wants to they will still hack the game or cheat. You can't stop them. Windows has tried something similar for some time called WGA and i know of many ways to get around it if i hadn't already gotten my own full Windows OS from my school which i only use for that exact reason. This leads me to believe that it can still be hacked and people can still cheat. So then why the hell would you hurt those average users if you know you're still going to lose. A bit of software and headahces for almost all people in my opinion is no subsitute for Good Staff.
In Windows Vista x64 it says that you can play games like trickster if you a)Turn off your firewall, b)Turn off your AV/Anti-Malware and c)turn off UAC. But without those things you're basically saying oh come destroy my pc. It's not like Windows is as good as GNU/LInux. I mean in linux no worries about malware but still the firewall is needed. Plain and simple Gameguard is ruining the f2p gamers experience.
tl&dr;
GameGuard why the hell would anyone ever use. It's pointless and harms the majority plus i'm sure people can get around it if they so wish.
