Hi,
Is there projects for 3D realistic desktop, real desktop (or 3D file browser ) ?
Apple has published recently a patent concerning 3D real desktop, that will perhaps be integrated in future OS (quoted here : http://www.infos-du-net.com/actualite/14959-finder-3d-mac.html )
Do we have similar plans for Linux as Real Desktop (http://www.presse-citron.net/votre-bureau-xp-en-3d-avec-real-desktop-lite) ?
What are the technical difficulties ?
We know the projects :
Compiz, Metisse, Looking-glass, Real Desktop ...

We already got a 3D Unix file manager (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFUlAQZB9Ng) (joke).
Now, serious. I have seen those Apple drafts, but I don't know if would be easy to use with our current available hardware (mouse+keyboard). I think we would need a new kind of device.
You should also see BumpTop (http://bumptop.com) for Windows, looks like the image in your second link.
About Linux, I think it would be possible to do. Maybe the Compiz devs may think in writing a file manager. I don't know.

I can't just imagine the quantity of work it'd require ...
Some projects like Metisse (Mandriva) and Looking-glass (Java, Sun) has developped some stuff like that for linux; but some practical difficulties remain ... the second project is not maintained ... the first, i barely managed to install it before crash ... for sure there are many more advanced projects for windows OS (Real desktop, Bumptop ... ), perhaps a late due to financial support.
Perhaps some more ressources (and powerfull graphical card ... ++nvidia 9400, 256mo ram laptop minimum ...) would be necessary for achieving a single treatment (distances, perspectives, geometries, edges, locations ...) ...

g-speak (http://vimeo.com/2229299) might have something to offer in this front.
because 3d desktop most likely need more than just keyboard and mouse for interaction (not that it can't but for maximmum usability it should), have hand gestures or a brain wave input device. ;)

Se si desidera attivare il tuo desktop in un 3D (quasi) e alcuni hanno divertimento a rotazione quelle icone e file con il mouse in qualsiasi direzione quindi basta Real Desktop. If you have a computer with even a normal graphic card this piece of software will make you pretty happy. Se si dispone di un computer anche con una normale scheda grafica questo pezzo di software vi farà molto felici. Long back we did talked about some Torna a lungo abbiamo parlato di alcuni good 3d virtual Desktops buona Desktop 3d virtuale (http://www.technospot.net/blogs/download-3d-virtual-desktop-for-windows-xp-and-vista/it/) but this beats all of them. ma questo batte tutti. Here is one image you would love to see. Qui è una immagine che si sarebbe piaciuto vedere.
