I can no longer watch recordings on my computer after having upgraded to Ubuntu 9.04.

Frame rate has dropped to several seconds/frame, and I get no audio.

I now get the system sounds through the digital audio outputs, but nothing from mythTV. (Previously I was using the analog outputs since under 8.10, the digital outputs did not work at all.)

I've installed the ATI 9.4 drivers, and messed with a bunch of settings to no effect.

After a bunch of trial and error, I got sound back. I had to switch to ALSA:Default, and turn of the digital pass through. When the digital pass through was enabled, all I got was noise.

I finally got video working again. The biggest problem was finding the switch in a non-intuitive place to turn off visual effects. It is hidden under system->preferences->appearances. Certainly not the first place I looked.

Setting visual effects to "none" got me back to where I was with 8.10, adequate, but not good video. Still has lots of feathering.
