I installed Ubuntu 8.10 under Windows XP Pro on an oldish AMD 1.6GHz w/1GB Ram.

When I start the PC, I can see the dual boot screen, but neither the arrow keys nor the enter key is active, I have to wait 30 seconds, and of course it starts Windows.

Is there a fix?

Thanks,

COuld be because the PC isn't recognizing the keyboard when its not in an OS? I don't know how you could fix that...

Sounds like you need to enable your usb keyboard for *DOS. You should see that in your BIOS (properly called CMOS). Go through the menus and find the one option that should say "Enable usb for DOS" or something like that. That will fix your problem.
