Has anyone been able to get Guild Wars to function on Wine?
I would like to buy this game, but I would prefer not to use Cedega!
Thanks in advance.

I hear it runs almost perfectly on Cedega. If you can use a credit card, I would suggest giving them a few bucks. Their work is said to be excellent, plus you will encourage them to maintain it. I can't pay for it because my father won't let me pay for games, otherwise I would buy it.

I heard that you can use cedega CVS and/or WINECVS...waiting on my shipit cds (to switch from mandrake) and my ram and vid card (the ram and vid card should be here today WOOHOO)
Let me see if i can find the links that someone gave me...
I think I madea post in the beginners forums and someone linked me 2 sites...I know one was on linux-gamers dot net about the cedegaCVS and I think there is a howto here about the WINE CVS...
if you get it working before i do, let me know how you did it.

ok here are the links ubuntuforums winecvs (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=29996&highlight=cedega+cvs)
and linux-gamers cedega cvs (http://www.linux-gamers.net/modules/wfsection/article.php?articleid=45)
good luck and make sure to let me know what one gets it working for you...please and thank you

Thanks guys, that's very helpful :)
If you can't afford cedega, it is based on Wine, which is open source, so I would think that the cedega code must be publicly available somewhere??

Cedega gives out there cvs free....i haven't tried it yet....my ram got held up in the mail dangit...and don't want to crash and burn with 384mb ram...waiting for my 1gb of DDR 3200 WOOHOO (oh and figuring out how to overclock my AMD XP 1900 :p)

If you buy Cedega, all you are paying for is:
1. binary install
2. Point2play (GUI frontend...there are free ones available now too...Grapevine is pretty decent)
3. The ability to vote on what games to try supporting next
Other than that, the free CVS source is the same product.
When it comes to a product that depends on which way the wind is blowing, as to whether a program will install and run under it, I can't see spending $ on it. Supporting the work of the developers and allowing them to keep going is a "research grant", not a software license....

I agree with your sentiments.
Did you get Grapevine as a .deb?
Where from?
Thanks,
