I was so distraught...I got my mini-9, w/ubuntu last week, and after a few exciting wireless craziness, got everything working, and started removing "junk I didn't need." Began w/yahoo (does *anybody* keep that toolbar?), then I got rid of Cheese...and then I kind of got into removing stuff, like OpenOffice and Printer Drivers...rather than just get a bigger SSD, like most do, I figured I had 2gb or ram, and 4gb ssd, and was knocking off stuff right and left, and learning how to clean my system out, remove older kernels, all kinds of stuff...I got down to 1.5gb free space...

So I decide I'll plug in Thunderbird, and just remove Evolution, and did it in Synaptics, and noticed the links to Gnome warnings, but ah, I figured that didn't mean what it said it meant...whoops, there went everything...

And then I booted up my other computer, so I could get online, and logged back on here all embarassed, trying to get info on *what* to do...the alt-f2 keys stuff of course didn't work, and then neither did the gnome app downloads...finally, around 3 in the morning it dawned on me that my wireless hookup was no longer working, so no wonder I wasn't getting anything, so *then* I plugged in a USB cable, and went for broke, and put:

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

in the login shell terminal, and *that* worked, and everything came back, good as new...or at least all the stuff I needed: I still have 1.2gb free space...and that's plenty...

Thanks to all, on here, both those who have erred, like me, and those who posted how to fix this mess...
