Short answer:- A bit like -this- (http://www.howtoforge.com/upgrading-ubuntu-studio-from-7.04-to-7.10)

Long answer:- Its supposed to be released today but the site doesn't mention it. I quite like to know what is in it before i commit.

Is that what you're supposed to do to upgrade. Download the complete CD image?

If you are already using jaunty all you need to do is stay updated and you will have the release version.

Mark,
What? Are you saying that if you have 8.10, you should update to 9.04 and then wait for the update manager to sort the rest?

Is this the norm? I mean, can I count that a better version will be available soon at the Ubuntu Studio site?

Reinstalling the OS from a new CD won't incur loss of data? Should I backup all my files first?

Be safe .. backup first .

You can install over an already installed ubuntu. When installing choose not to format/partition the disk but to use the linux partion. The installer will warn you that all system files will be erased/replaced, but your home directory will stay intact.

BTW Using synaptic/update manager to update should also upgrade your system, no need to re-install, then again : re-installing is a nice way to clean up your system ...

i've been trying for two days to download the new 9.04 studio from the following url.
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntustudio/releases/9.04/release

my browser just sits there doing nothing. the status bar says its "transfering data from cdimage.ubuntu.com" but the fact is that there is nothing being transfered.

system monitor shows no network activity and this is a fresh install of jaunty jackalope. i have no blocking software installed and everything else seems to work just fine.

so my question is, could somebody else try downloading the new jaunty ubuntu studio version 9.04 from www.ubuntustudio.org (http://ubuntuforums.org/www.ubuntustudio.org) and reply here to let me know what happened?

EDIT, nevermind. the page finally opened after waiting 5 minutes. i'm downloading it now.

thank you

You should download things like that from a torrent. Generally, a torrent will let you in and download the iso while simultaneously uploading segments to others in the cluster. Usually a much better way to download a file.

Also be sure to allow your torrent client to run for at least a while after you've downloaded the .iso. That's the way that torrents work, and if no one let their systems run, there would be nothing there to continue the torrent, and you wouldn't get the file.
