hello all...
a little while back my mac HD crapped out on me, and with an installation disk too scratched to use and an empty wallet, i turned to ubuntu =)
i'm running ubuntu 8.10 intrepid, and for some reason have lost the ability to turn on desktop effects. they worked when i first installed the OS, but after playing around and adding some stuff (do dock, compiz, leopard theme), it now gives me the error "desktop effects could not be enabled".
this could be way off, but it seemed to happen after i attempted to hook up my external monitor..?
please help! i like ubuntu so far, but would be much happier if i had some sleek window effects =)
any suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks
