im going to be doing an LFS distro, for my computer, and i was wondering what distro would be a good choice to use as a base system.... it has to be able to support Xfce, so i was thinking ubuntu might be good, or maybe debian.... i dont know.... i need some help deciding.... im hesitant to use anything debian-related, because its going to use ardour, and from what i hear, ardour is not debian-compatible....

edit: actually, i can use KDE, too... I'd just really prefer Xfce...

LFS usually means Linux From Scratch. You don't start with a "base system" for that, instead you just follow the instructions on www.linuxfromscratch.org. Where have you heard that ardour is not debian compatible? Ubuntu has packages for it (and Debian too I guess), so Ubuntu should work fine for it.
