I've been using Inkscape and so far have been very very happy about it. Does anyone have a recommendation for a similarly good software for the creation of 3D graphics?

For example, if I want to make a Nitrogen molecule, I can make a circle, then blur the edge in Inkscape. Is there any software that allows me to create a sphere, then blur the edge of the sphere?

What I have been thinking would be really interesting is embedding such 3D image in files like pdf, that can render a slight different image for each scroll.

Recommendations would be greatly appreciated. As of current I look for 3D graphics just for fun :).

Thanks. And what happened to the "thank you" button? Haven't been to UF for long.

this, or Wings3D or MisfitModeler3D.
Though of these Blender is the most mature with a release as early as 1995

If what you are doing only chemicals then there are some good domain specific Apps -- search this forum to tell you what. I have already answered this question in this forum and I am feeling lazy.
