View Full Version : [ubuntu] Acer x193W LCD and weird display settings

Well, I wasn't exactly sure where to post this question, so I decided here.
I am running 8.10 on a Thinkpad R50. I have my 19" Acer X193W LCD hooked up native resolution of 1440X900 (the laptop's screen supports 1024X768). The video card is ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 32MB.
Now, my question. I guess you could say I'm a beginner when it comes to Ubuntu. I was playing around with the display settings, and I cannot figure out how to turn of the laptop display, and use only the external at 1440X900. It seems all I can do (or know how to do for that matter) is either mirror both displays at 1024X768, or span the desktop across both displays. Both of which have weird and undesirable results. Is there any way, and how do you set it so only the external is used? Also, once that is configured will it revert back to the original settings (i.e. back to using the laptop's display) after a restart thus preventing me forgetting to change it back before I hit the road and be stuck without a display?
Thank You!!
