Hi, I have the Lenovo X61 (non tablet version) and wanted to install Ubuntu on it. I have run Ubuntu before but never on a laptop and still remain quite a noob in the subject..

Was wondering if you guys to help me out on what to do install wise and driver wise.. Thanks!

hi anthonyX61

installed ubuntu on an old t20 with 256mb ram. No real issues bar a wireless card not working. Switched to xubuntu to see if its more suitable for older hardware.

what spec is your machine?

Hi AnthonyX61,

You didn't mention which version of Ubuntu you were planning on installing. The thinkwiki usually has some guides. Here's one for Intrepid: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Installing_Ubuntu_8.10_(Intrepid_Ibex)_on_a_ThinkP ad_X61

My specs are:

T7100 1.80 Intel Core Duo CPU
30625 MB RAM
Mobile Intel(R)965 Express Chipset Family

I had looked into Kubuntu.. however i found there was more support for Ubuntu right? and i dont know which version i would put on... the one with the most help possible i guess.. which runs well with my machine..

I installed 9.04 on my X60s yesterday. Had 8.10 before. Everything works out the box. The only thing you have to fix is the scroll function for the trackpoint mouse.

Im using a 64gb Supertalent Ultradrive ME SSD disk in my x60s. Boot times on this laptop with ext4 is under 10 seconds now. Everything is pretty smooth and fast :)
