Hi all, I'm a new member. I just posted my intro in the community thread, if you want to check it out. Anyway, I've just started with Ubuntu and so far I'm loving it. Don't want to go back to Windows at all. But I need my games! The only problem is, I'm a total linux noob. I mean, total. I'm working on that though.

I've been trying to install NWN all day, following a couple of different tutorials on Bioware's site, and it's just not working at all. I've tried to install by downloading all of the files from Bioware, and I've tried to install from my Platinum discs. Niether works. I've updated it, and checked all my files against the required list. Basically I've done all I know to do. But every time I try to run it, I get a black screen like it's trying to load the game, but nothing ever comes up. Sometimes it locks the PC up totally and I have to reboot.

I'm at my wits end here. I know there are some out there that have gotten this to work, so any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks in advance!

I guess you havn't installed any drivers for your 3D card if its Nvidia you can find a howto here: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=75074&highlight=nvidia

Yeah, I actually did the install first thing after installing ubuntu. Did it by the second method on that page you linked to. Downloading with synaptic etc.

Which come to think of it, actually brings me to another question....After I installed the drivers, it changed my background, and when I log in it says it's loading "edubuntu" instead of ubuntu? Weird...

Well, after 8 hours and countless tries, I finally got it to work. Lol, that was a major PITA. But it runs really well, and that's one less thing I have to switch over to Windows for. I feel a sense of acomplishment.

Congratulations!!
I feel a sense of accomplishment everytime i get a new something working in linux...well anything other than an RPM (yes, i am still using mandrake, waiting VERY patiently for my ShipIt cds)
