The login screen in Jaunty has a 3D metallic Ubuntu logo that looks really nice. It's very crisp and modern looking. Then when you log in you get the same old washed out muddy/mushy Human Gtk+ theme, blah!

It would be awesome if someone did a Gtk+/GNOME theme that matched the Jaunty login theme.

What metallic login-theme? You mean the stock GDM-theme?

Hi,

Could you post a screen shot of the login screen?

Yeah, the login screen looks like:

I was actually just looking through the forums and came across this:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/Hardy/Alternate/BasicIdeals?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=fulldesk%28svg%29_v3_3.jpg

Which is sort of close to what I was thinking and not too bad. Maybe something is already in the works. It's a little too brown though. The login screen has more of a red/maroon/orange/gold tint and isn't so brown.

I like the high-tech sharpness of it though.

Aha! I got that login-screen, but i've never used it. The Gnome-theme doesn't look bad either! And i agree with you; it's a little bit to brown.

Unfortunately that screenshot of the GNOME theme isn't actually a real theme. It's a mockup someone did. It's on the wiki: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/Hardy/Alternate/BasicIdeals

Looks like it's much older than I thought and that page hasn't been updated in ages. Oh well, I guess we won't see that any time soon.

What a shame! Can't be that hard making this theme? *cough* chris *cough* - Nah, just kidding :P

The reason it is a mockup is because it can't be done currently. For example, the rounded dropdown menu can't be done. Also, until GTK gets compositing, I don't think opacity for the dropdown menu is possible, either.

Hi :)

I have opaque (semi-transparent) drop-down menus for just about everything on mine, but i'm running Hardy..... i tried to replicate the effect on a second computer that's running Jaunty but couldn't remember what i did to get those transparent, i think it was somewhere in Compiz.

Does anyone here know how to get Jaunty's boot splash (usplash)into Hardy? Because i love it :)

Kind regards.....

Thanh

Could it be in the Opacity,Brightness, etc options at the top of compiz options ;) ? Then set options to transparent drop downs. When i get on my linux box i can get you exact options.

Hi :)

No, that is not the one.... in there, "Opacify" is not even checked.... it was some other option somewhere but i just can't remember.

I will attach a screenshot (taken with a camera phone, because when i have such drop-down open the "PrintScreen" key does not work for some reason) where you can see, despite the rather poor quality, that the drop-down menu as well as the preview-window are transparent.

Kind regards....
