Hi there i am new to this ubuntu server edition and i have problems getting Linux (Ubuntu) connected to the internet via our usb modem because its the speedtouch 330! (a big mistake to get) so my question is that, i have installed ubuntu desktop edition and i am wondering is there anyway of converting it into a server by installing the packages from Ubuntu Server edition?? so i mean in ubuntu desktop edition (which i installed) is there a way to download and burn to a cd and install the packages from that cd like apache and ect...
Thanks for any help that you can give me!

You'll eventually see this (http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=7061233&postcount=10) post about using a descriptive title... ;)
About any package on the server edition can be installed on the desktop edition (some folks insist on having GUI). You should be able to install them via a package manager (apt-get, Synaptic, aptitude, etc.). It's also possible to add the CD to your list of repos - but I don't remember how.
A bit out of context, but...... Make sure you have the cd enabled in /etc/apt/sources.list

I haven't used tasksel (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Tasksel) but you might investigate.

Whatever works for you.
I recommend Ubuntu for beginners, but if you know what you're doing, try Debian.

That modem is not great.
Any ethernet modem (or modem-router) would be better.
This might help for desktop use: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=797804
Is the server to act as the gateway / router?
