I've been using Ubuntu since Feisty and I've just installed the new Ubuntu Jaunty Release Candidate, and it's brilliant. I'm really impressed. Boot time on my Dell XPS laptop is almost twice as fast and seems much smoother overall. In fact, the whole user experience seems much more responsive. My laptop works perfectly. The new Dust theme is great, I love it.

All the Ubuntu releases I've used up to now have been excellent, and keep getting better. This is definitely the best Ubuntu yet.

:D

I'm upgrading as we speak, I'm looking forwards to playing around with it :)
and I have to agree, I'm liking the new theme too.

I just updated from Intrepid to Jaunty RC (I normally wait until the final release) and it was by far the easiest upgrade for me so far.

They just keep getting better :)

I normally wait for the final release, too, but this time I just couldn't. And I'm glad I didn't!

I'm downloading the RC as we speak. I think the servers are busy: although somewhat faster than dial-up, it still seems rather slow.

I'm looking forward to checking it out. All going well, I might even look into setting up one machine as a home server eventually.

I was going to wait as well, but I am also downloading it now. Very curious to see whats different...

The notifications are a nice touch, but not much else is obviously different, just a little bit speedier...I'm still playing though :)

I can finally use Compiz effects with hardware-based video playback without flickering, so I'm happy. Before, I had to disable Compiz every time I wanted to view a video file. Either that, or I reverted to software-based video playback, which isn't very good.

The desktop environment feels much snappier than 8.10 and 8.04, and I'm not even using the proprietary video drivers.

You may even get better performance when you do a reinstallation and install ubuntu on a ext4 partition. It's stable as far as I can see. I never experienced any trouble with it yet.

I've been using Jaunty since the second Alpha, and I gotta say it really improved last months. It's unbelievable how quickly it's being developed.

OSS is great :O

Well, I was using 8.04 and not really managing my updates.. Went to the RC and it ran for @ 30 minutes with no issues at all. I have to admit its 'faster' and improved but I dont think the speed is worth all the hype Ive read (x64)

Too true, although there is improvement...probably as much as the previous upgrade due to kernel improvements and all that

With ext4 things would be better still though...
