Mail Notification Initialization Error

Recently I got rid of gnubiff for my panelside mail notification as it was crashing too often. Finally got around to searching for something else. Mail Notification seems to work like gnubiff but sadly it gives me the following error:

"Unable to initialize the notification library. Message popups will not be displayed."

I did already go into settings and added one of my 5 mailboxes. Any idea what this error might be about?

Addendum: Looks like it got fixed but then days later, it didnt start up when my session started. From starting it manually, the message appears once more. From now on, it doesnt seem to want to start when my session starts. Not sure if the two issues are related.
