I joined this forum i few days ago as an linux newbie.
I posted some problems here to which i got solutions too.
thanks to all out there who helped me.
of lately i posted a problem that is haunting me for days and still could not get a single reply.
At least posting here may help. the post lives at :
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1127304
I am now becoming less and less interested in checking that post to get a reply.
Hope posting here may get somebody's attention.

usually people will not answer problems for old versions, for a reason, just install latest release..
instead of checking the post, subscribe to the thread with instant mail notification, you will be notified when someone replies
im unaware of your problem, try creating a new account with adduser and login with it, see if you can get to the desktop, might be a config error in your home.

i installed this release because 8.04 and 8.10 both wereb giving problems in the first place itself. 7.10 ran fine before. But after i installed it freshly, i dont know what is wrong.
I have reconfigured /etc/X11/xorg.conf file as required but in vain...
may be i can get a link to similar post or anything like that...

Unfortunetaly 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon is reaching its End of Life (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1104965) tomorrow (April 18), which means it will be unsupported. Jaunty Jackalope is due out in a week (April 23), and the Release Candidate (http://releases.ubuntu.com/releases/9.04/) is now available - you might consider giving that a try, which can also help you beat the rush on release day.

I saw that someone suggested that you should install a newer version of Ubuntu and I believe he may be right, you may find out that the problem you are experiencing has been resolved in the latest release. Now there may be other factor that prevent you from doing so, I don't know you may have your own reason.
