We have a "Green Team" to help new users.
We do not call new users "Newbies" because we feel that the word is insulting, given it's history - therefore, we would not have a "Newbie Team."
The Green Team is made up of people that help out in the Absolute Beginner area. If you would like to join that team, you should hang out in that forum area and help out as much as you are able to.
In general, if you want to join any team, participate in what that team does - Team Bahamut has been concentrating on the UDSF as of late; Tweaker Team writes howtos & in general works in the Tips & Tricks areas; Hardware Team (you can guess); etc.
Participation, even if it is sporadic, is a large criteria for joining a team. Each team also has it's own set of tasks and duties. Ask how you can help.

What do you mean by its history? Everywhere ive been it has always been a positive word, just someone who is new to a particular thing. (In this case, ubuntu). Now, some words that it has spawned are however used as insults.
When I saw the green team I had no idea what they did, I only guessed it was something environmental. But then I thought that has nothing to do with ubuntu...

The history of the word Newbie - is not so positive. And in most current examples, "Newbie" is used with distaste - so as staff, we agreed to not use it when talking about new users.
We call them Greens.
As for a team list / description / explanation... well... the holidays and work kinda slowed down the response time on that. woopsie.
I'll post something this week that explains teams in better detail. :)

If we are not to be addressed as newbies why then does the very same wordk appear under my username in the forums?
I am called a Ubuntu Newbie Brew. Is this a case of double standards?

Well, at least you're in good company. Mark Shuttleworth himself has the same title on this forum :)

I prefer the term Novice as taken from mud games such as novice adventurer.

Called a slip of the fingers - it's fixed now, but it may take a while for it to update everyone.

Team members are different from forum staff. To find out what a team does - you'd have to ask a team leader right now - until I make a nice post.

Bump.
Did I mention when I get up in the morning I make my coffee and go check the updates on the forum. On average I tend to visit the forum up to 10 times a say at least and spend on average anywayre from 15 min to 1 hour checking updates. Im on a dissability and have a lot of time to spend here learning which I must say has taught me a lot about linux and the more I learn the more I like Ubuntu. Lastly it gives me something to do other than stare at a wall lol.
Lastly from what I have heard even writen externaly from this forum is that the Ubuntu forums have the highest user friendliness rating of all the Linux forums.
Umm anyways we still didnt get an update about the teams etc. Any insight when that will be?
