So I recently switched to kubuntu from windows (after a quick stint with ubuntu) and I absolutely love it. Now I am wondering 2 things.

1. Which is the best player to use for multimedia (mostly .mkv files) mplayer? vlc? something else?

2. is there a way I can get flash 10 to work in konqueror or am I going to have to get firefox?

all opinions welcome. Thanks in advance.

For flash : sudo apt-get install kubutu-restricted-extras

I use mplayer for everything media related.

I use VLC for everything media related. It's really up to you which you choose

2. in konqueror: Settings -> Configure Konqueror -> Plugins (tab) -> Scan for new plugins. Not entirely sure if it will work

Welcome to the Community!

I think for the mkv files , you should be better off using VLC. But that's just my opinion and Linux is all about choice..I found you a page : http://www.downloadatoz.com/5-mkv-players/ . Maybe itll help you.

As far as flash on konqueror goes , i think you might be interested in this : http://mikearthur.co.uk/2007/12/konqueror-with-latest-adobe-flash-howto/

Thanks for the info it was very helpful. One question though, does anyone know if I need something besides flash 10 to view Colbert Report that seems to be my bane at the moment. Everything else seems to work seamlessly.

Thanks again!
