Do the mods close way to many threads prematurely?
What's up with all this super-proactive behaviour, it is driving me nuts!
Another thing I dislike about the forums is that you can't swear, I thought Ubuntu was supposed to be about freedom.
And don't give me that "it has to be child-friendly" crap, there is nothing morally wrong with swearing, it is more about context. And if it is that big of a deal couldn't the people who run the forums just make an opt-out filtering option?
Sorry mods if I come off sounding harsh, I don't hate you guys and I know you put a lot of effort into moderating... there are just a few things that could use some changes. :p

If you have concerns about a specific thread being closed then you may post in the Resolution Center (http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=123)
As for swearing you may wan to review the Code of Conduct (http://ubuntuforums.org/index.php?page=policy)
Thread moved to Forum Feedback & Help

Thank you, that first part really helped (the resolution center thing).
And I've read the code of conduct already (did when I signed up).
I am still wondering, why not put in place an opt-out language filter instead of the current forced one? Swearing itself isn't hateful, and it doesn't even have to be negative.

There are many colorful ways of expressing oneself without swearing. :)

We all feel frustrated from time to time and probably feel the urge to cuss and swear, that's understandable. There has even been the occasional bit of light-hearted discussion in these forums about the way people express themselves (see here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1050685) for an example)
The problem I see here is that we're from a variety of backgrounds, and some people might be more easily offended by swearing than others. Other people might see swearing as disrespectful.

There are many issues with swearing, not the least of which is workplace rules.
Many of us either work with ubuntu, or we review the ubuntu forums, in our workplace. For example, I often eat lunch at my desk and will review some of the entries in the ubuntu forums. Our workplace has a pretty strict policy around 'appropriate websites' and I would not like the ubuntu forums to be included in the 'inappropriate list'.
Hope this helps clarify the issue,

I know this. But what if someone told you that you couldn't eat grapes for the rest of your life because they say so, even though there really isn't anything wrong with eating grapes. Sure grapes aren't the best thing in the world and you never really needed to eat them due to the wide variety of other fruits out there that are equally or even more delicious. But the fact that someone is putting a restraint on you is annoying, this restraint makes you feel unfree, why should someone else determine whether you get to eat grapes or not! (And this person isn't even your mother!)
@lisati & fballem:
Did you guys totally ignore my opt-out filter suggestion. If you don't know how an opt-out system works, it works like this:
Something is enabled by default, user can choose to disable it.
In this case a language filter would be enabled by default for users and enabled for guests visiting the site, for those who choose not to have their content censored before it is delivered to them, they have the option to opt-out.

I'm going to close this thread as it isn't really going anywhere, and this is a family friendly forum. Personally I don't care, but I feel a flame war coming on.
If you have a problem with Forum policy as Overdrank said, take it up in the Resolution Center (http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=123)
