I'm such a follower sometimes...I blame Kassetra for being too cool for me not to want to join in.

After looking more closely at yours (bored2k and zenwhen) I decided to clean mine up a bit more. Mine is adequate...the ones you two are sporting ROCK!
EDIT: Okay, mine is improving slowly...

Kass made the avitars for staff. I bet she has a file with a naked little puff person somewhere on her drive.

I'd probably use a red mage image if I could be bothered to find one. Nothing like playing with 4 red mages!

Dunno about a powerpuff mascot for ubuntu, but here's ubuntu-tan:

Although I think the 'official' one is this:

but I prefer the first one.

Powerpuff girls? Sissy? I certainly wouldn't say that, well not to their faces anyway... :D
(I didn't think TechSonic's post was disrespectful, there was even a lol at the end)

Kass: what are you using to create the avatars? Mine is a lot less smooth than the ones you made...it could be the program, but I freely admit it's probably because you're just better at this than I am.

Well... a mix of things... I have powerpuff body parts in illustrator, gimp, freehand, inkscape and photoshop. (Eep! I have a directory full of cartoon body parts!)
I usually finish assembling and coloring the pieces in photoshop - then I send them off to imageready for web post-production.
And my bitmapped-images are around 600px x 600px .... so that I can scale them down and correct them from more data. (Vectors, of course, scale to any size my processor/ram combos allow... heh.)
Most likely - I'm guessing you're getting such roughage (HA!) from flat paint bucket recolorings, most likely in gimp or photoshop with really choppy settings. For smoother results, you're going to want to use a more generous allowance on your paint bucket tool or possibly marquee the area you want filled, roughly first, fill it and then go back with a paintbrush tool and at a high zoom, paint with a 1 or 3 px brush, with soft edges, around the area to 'smooth' the color fill.
PM me some time and I can probably walk you through how to do this in your choice of photo editor. :)
EDIT: *YE GODS I'VE BEEN DOING THIS FOR A LONG TIME... post-production? what person outside of the industry uses that term?!*

oooooh that is so grisly sounding...LOL.
I've got a meeting in just a couple of minutes that may last most of the rest of the day. When I get a chance I'm going to play around some more with gimp and see if I can use some of what you suggested above. If my results aren't up to my hopes I will definitely PM you. If things turn out pretty well I'll post before and after avatar pics.

Okay, I worked on this a little bit tonight...just having fun. When I made the original I didn't even think to make it in a larger size and then reduce it (duh!) so I drew the thing actual size! This time I made it about 600x600 pixels and then reduced it to about 90x90 after I finished. It's still a far cry from kassetra quality, but it's better.
See for yourself.

It's perfect as far as I am concerned. I feel like I joined the big boys club or the cool kids. Pretty soon it will be a unwritten rule that everyone will have a powerpuff avitar.

Glad you like it. If you look really, really close at his hair it has some magenta in it, just like the Ozz-man himself. I had to guess at the chest tattoo colors, though. It's been a while.

On this scale the tattoos work perfect. My brother thought they were nipple covers though. I tried to tell him they were tattoos. I think he has been smoking crack or something.
