what do I need to do to get wireless going in 8.04.?
I use eth0 ok but lo is idle and doesnt do anything.I want to get wireless going first and then set up an ad hoc direct wireless connection
between my Laptop and an HP officejet printer that has wireless built in.
Model J4680 .The printer works perfectly in Ubu 8.04.
It says it can be done but the usual way is through a driver they supply for XP and Mac.
Any info much appreciated.

lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 no wireless extensions.

lo Interface doesn't support scanning.

eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning.

the other one is too big to paste.
by the way, is the new 9.04 better and maybe its best to just dump 8.04
and upgrade..?? what do you think?? it would have all the wireless and ethernet ready to go..no???

9.04 hasnt officially been launched.. being a new OS , could have a lot of bugs .. it would not be as stable as 8.10 .. you can give it a try on vmware or a spare machine.. you would need to post all outputs if you wish to diagnose the problem..

I did the backport thing and it doesnt work. I would think the Intel
card is the most common amd any problems with it would have been fixed a long time ago. Apparently not. For christs sake fix it in 9.04...
