.AVI sound not working!

My sound on .avi files is not working aswell if i use Totem avi runs not smoothly too on VLC the movie is completly broken so im using Mplayer!
Edit: Normal MPEG-1 Layer 3 (MP3) Works and video aswell

are you sure the the video file is not broken?
It could be a codec issue with some silly windows semi protected files
or you could have a corrupted avi file
or as ive said missing a code/microsoft silly tricks
either way I have not understood your edit?
is it working now or you meant that mp3 files are playing well?

Most newer video files use other codecs besides the outdated MP3. Check to see if you have support for other audio codecs like AAC. Check to see if other avis play, or check to see if other video formats (mpeg, mp4, mkv, etc.) play fine. Could be just a bad rip/encode.
