This is so simple, I must have missed something!

I want to search the forums for posts with BOTH keywords present, say 'colour' and 'printing'.

I can't see how to do this. If I put both words in the search box I get all posts with EITHER keyword and am overwhelmed by the number of answers.

I think that's the best way, too.

but if you only want results from this site, add "site:http://ubuntuforums.org/" to the search.

Thanks to you both.

Looks like I haven't missed something after all.

Moved to forum feedback & help forum.

We know the forum search engine is not perfect, an amazing solution is just to use google search engine. Go to google and perform your search as following :
site:ubuntuforums.org word1 word2 word3 ...

Probably not the ideal place to make a suggestion but it follows on from the thread.

Sometimes it would be helpful to limit a search to the results of the previous search rather than the whole forum / thread / whatever.
