Its a totally n00b question to ask, I know, but I'm still trying to get the hang of Ubuntu.

I've got this .exe file, and I have absolutely no clue how to run/open it. Can anyone offer advice?

Ubuntu does not use .exe's you will need to install a program called wine (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Wine) to run .exe Or you could try and find a linux equivalent. (http://www.linuxrsp.ru/win-lin-soft/table-eng.html)

Mmhmm, I have Wine installed. Not sure how to execute the file with it though.

you should be able to do so by right-clicking -> open with Wine.

if you cant, press alt+F2 and enter "wine /path/to/executable" (without the quotes)

Alright, I right-click, select open with Wine Windows Program Loader, and I wait. Then I get this error that says "Cannot open boxfile"

Wine will not run just any .exe, only some of them. What application are you trying to run?
