lost running application icons in panel

[sleep furious idea]

In ubuntu on the top panel on the right it used to show an icon of the programs running(skype, amarok, pidgeon, etc.). It was very convenient. I'm not sure what I did but I can't see these icons any more.

Any tips?

Right-click panel.....
1). Select "Add to Panel".
2). Add the "Notification Area".
