I'm looking for a really basic web browser as a backup for Firefox in my Ubuntu, any advice?

Epiphany is the default browser for Gnome. Definitely worth a try.

midori? low on features, but that doesn't slow it down.

my vote on epiphany as a 2nd browser whenever FF hiccups.

I've used Konquorer extensively, too. But if the question is 'what's lighter than firefox as a backup?' then konq is not the answer.

I have used Opera for many years, and found it to be very stable, and friendly.
(just $0.02 worth)

Epiphany is about as simple as it gets and VERY fast

My vote is for Epiphany as the 1st browser, if you don't rely on Firefox extensions.

+1 epiphany, low resource, ad's block extension, plugins work great. you can even lock it down if you want. ;)

the bad: spellcheck doesn't work for me, limited tweaking(gui & about: config), i don't like the download applet to.
