I have a micron windows 2000, pentium II, that my friend updated to xp and i want to install ubuntu on it. but im not sure if it will effect the system specs. I am installing it onto a second hardrive. I also want to know if I can install windows games in ubuntu without having to get a virtual box. And would it be better to just get rid of windows all together?

Ubuntu should work (I have it on a similar laptop), but Xubuntu (different from ubuntu, designed for low-end machines) would work better.
You can install windows games in ubuntu without virtualbox, you can use wine for that. Not all games are compatible though - you can check the list of them here: http://appdb.winehq.org/

installing in a separate hard drive makes things easier.
Just be aware that sometimes (when using an IDE and a SATA disc, by example) the BOOT Loader creates an in incorrect list of Available Operative Systems -You just have to boot with the Live CD and change a small Text File in your Ubuntu Installation-
After Gutsy, it happens to me every new install (IDE + SATA discs). No big deal, gets fixed in 5 minutes, but the first time it happened i though i had screwed up my PC.

Only when you know for certain Linux is right for you, and if you have 2 hard drives, unless you need 2 Linux's why not just keep XP? WINE is great but its handy having an XP partition for those 'when you need it' moments :)
