I am wondering what are the advantages or disadvantages of installing firefox plugins using Synaptic or the "Add/Remove Applications" option.

Thanks!

The ones from the repos get installed globally for all users
but are usually a couple of revisions behind.

If it's just your Personal Computer, I would say get them trough Firefox directly.

Synaptic and Add/Remove do the exact same thing "behind the scenes"

Add/Remove programs is just designed to be a little nicer when you're looking for end-user applications (not like, for example, mystery CLI utility X and strange library headers Y)

So bottom line, they'll do the exact same thing.
