so, this is the kind of job I want:
http://www.empornium.us/jobdesc1.php#sys
(be aware that the website is a porn-torrent sharing site, but naturally the job board has no porn on it.)

The job req's state that one should be familiar with apache, http, webservers, etc. Naturally to become familiar with this kind of stuff, I need to set up a server at my house that serves up a webpage with a php script or two, and offers some kind of functionality (like being a frontend for an ftp server or something), since you're not going to let me admin your webserver without experience. My question is, what resources can I use to learn how to set up a webserver? I have a domain registered, and it uses a cute little website template, but that's nonsense, I want it locally hosted and using my code, but I've little experience with html, php, etc. I'd like recommendations of books and websites and such where I can learn about how to locally host a functional website.

Please ask questions if any of this doesn't make sense.

Thanks,
sp0t
