Composite manager not working

Hi all

I've been running Intrepid since it was released. I have Compiz enabled, and everything worked fine. Now, all of a sudden, I can't get any visual effects to work. In Appearances Preferences, the Visual Effects has "None" selected, and I cant get it to change. (It says "searching for available drivers", then "desktop effects could not be enabled")

I was changing to a new icon set when it happened. There was a bit of a crash, and after that, no more visual effects. (For a while, AWN refused to work. It does now, but only on one desktop. I have to switch desktops and open AWN again for it to show up on another desktop)

Could anyone help?

Check System > Admin > Hardware Drivers and make sure your driver is activated.

The only drivers that are shown in Hardware Drivers are the ones for the wireless. There are no other drivers listed, nor has there ever been, and yet it always used to work fine...
