I can't watch any videos in Firefox. I wanted to try VLC to watch on-line videos, but when I go to Firefox preferences and change what program to use to view the videos, I click "Use Other" I don't know where to go to for VLC. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

VLC should be located at /usr/bin/vlc.
You can generally find the loaction of the binary for any program by typing "which program_name" in a terminal.

install mozilla-plugin-vlc and remove the totem plugin (recommend) or keep both but then you have to set firefox which plugin to use for every media type file.
