So, uninstalled PERL. Getting the impression that was a bonehead move. Re-installing seems to be insufficient. Is there a quick way to reinstall the baseline functionality? Preferably without wiping the files I have on here...

O.k. Re-installed the Ubuntu Desktop. Looks like most things are back. Lost the wireless though. Is there a specific package I need to install for that? Is there a list of packages that come on System76 laptops? I have a Darter Ultra, if it matters.

... and wireless internet is back after a reboot. I think all I need now is confirmation of whether Ubuntu Desktop re-installs everything the laptop was shipped with...

That should do it. The only thing I'm not sure of is the System76 driver, but I wanna say that's Python-based, not Perl (please correct me if I'm wrong). Either way, you can check that pretty easily by going to the system/administration menu & seeing if it's there.

Yes, Python 2.x.

And what's the System 76 driver?

It is an open source Python application we install that detects the version of Ubuntu you are running and the model number of your computer. It then applies model-specific patches to your System.

It is updated every so often with new fixes.
