I'm a computer technician, so I'm usually pretty good at figuring these things out. But after pouring over forums and bug reports, I've got nothing.
I just built a new shuttle computer (http://us.shuttle.com/barebone/Models/SN68SG2.html), with NVDIA GeForce7025/nForce™630a chipset (shows as MCP68 in lcpci).
The computer will work fine for awhile, then hangs. Can't turn the numlock light on or off, can't use the magic sysreq keys to reboot the system.
When it does this, the ethernet lights go CRAZY, blinking as fast as possible. A few seconds later, my switch (24 port freedom9 100mb) decides to stop switching and all the computers on the lan get disconnected.
It seems to happen most with high hard drive or lan activity. The most notable times have been:
- Copying files to the hard drive during setup with mythbuntu 8.10 and 9.04 beta
- apt-get upgrade while downloading or installing files (again, with both versions of mythbuntu)
I ran a memory test and hard drive test, both passed.
I tried a different cable and switch.
I'm at a loss as to how to debug this one. Is it a driver problem? Is it a bad motherboard? Any ideas on how I can figure this out would be much appreciated!

I just built a new shuttle computer (http://us.shuttle.com/barebone/Models/SN68SG2.html), with NVDIA GeForce7025/nForce™630a chipset (shows as MCP68 in lcpci).
The computer will work fine for awhile, then hangs. Can't turn the numlock light on or off, can't use the magic sysreq keys to reboot the system.
When it does this, the ethernet lights go CRAZY, blinking as fast as possible. A few seconds later, my switch (24 port freedom9 100mb) decides to stop switching and all the computers on the lan get disconnected.
It seems to happen most with high hard drive or lan activity. The most notable times have been:
- Copying files to the hard drive during setup with mythbuntu 8.10 and 9.04 beta
- apt-get upgrade while downloading or installing files (again, with both versions of mythbuntu)
I ran a memory test and hard drive test, both passed.
I tried a different cable and switch.
I'm at a loss as to how to debug this one. Is it a driver problem? Is it a bad motherboard? Any ideas on how I can figure this out would be much appreciated!
