Process to turn on update notifications IN Kubuntu

I have been doing new Jaunty installs in the last week (Kubuntu) & have discovered that update notifications dialog box works flawlessly. Has anyone who doesn't have a fresh install managed to get that going? Should I bug this or is it something that has to be manually fixed as it's not present in the beta version?

Nope. After upgrade at first update-notifier was crashing. Then it told me my package database is outdated. Right now it seems to be running but doesn't notify about new updates.

the same problems is it not showing the new update i checking it manualy.
i think it is a bug! (this is ubuntu)
