While writing a new message in the forum, there is an area containing smilies to the right of the text area. Two of the smilies keep moving, which is distracting to the point of making me give up trying to answer a beginner question where I felt I had some help to give.

Can these smilies be turned off? Made to stop moving? The smiley area hidden? If not by the forum settings, maybe a setting in Firefox?

I can move the window so the smileys are outside the screen, but I would prefer another solution.

Just press the escape key, if you are using Firefox that is.

And another thankyou from me too.

However.... That just stops them moving. If you don't want to see them at all (not even in other people's posts), particularly those puerile lolflag and guitar smilies (grrrrr) simply install adblock plus in Firefox, right-click on the smiley you want to consign to outer darkness, select "Copy Image Location" and use this url as a new filter rule in adblock plus.

:peace: :contentment:

in Opera is easier :)

to disable animated images(global): Tools -> Quick Preferences -> untick Enable Animated Images

to disable animated images (/site): Tools -> Quick Preferences -> Edit Site Preferences -> Content tab -> untick Enable Animated Images

to disable the smilies: Tools -> Advanced -> Block content -> Add.. http://ubuntuforums.org/images/smilies/*

or right click menu -> Block Content...
