newbie to Ubuntu, but have used linux heavily for over 10 years now. I have even built my own distro.
I can not get sound to work for many applications in ubuntu. does anyone know of a workaround to fix the problem in ubuntu that makes most of the games and sound apps to not be able to access /dev/dsp?
Every other distro I have used has not had this problem (although I have been avoiding ESD as if it was death it's self so that may be the problem)
What is wrong with Ubuntu causing the sound failures in applications that try to access sound hardware directly?
