I need to record a window, I've tried a few capture programs before but they weren't that good.

So any recommendations? It needs to be pretty light weight, and able to capture a single Window not the entire desktop.

If it helps I'm running ubuntu 8.10

Istanbul works really nice. It's a bit less laggy (I have an old computer) than recordmydesktop.

Thanks.

istanbul works once thru, then it will not work. I saved a video, then restarted a recording and could not stop it. Ended up killing the process.

You could try hypercam 2, but if it isn't compatible with ubuntu, then just use wine to use it.

Or use VLC which now has a quite nice desktop recording feature.

I have been using RecordMyDesktop but I wasn't pleased with the quality after uploading to youtube. Is there a way to improve RecordMyDesktop's quality?

I use Xvidcap(http://sourceforge.net/projects/xvidcap/) and it works well with me. As long as you keep the window size to 800x600 you get a pretty good video when uploaded to youtube. You can see some examples at my blog.
