I HAVE browsed and searched this forum but I have not yet found the answer that I seek. (or I might not have understood the answer)

I am a noob to Linux. I am running 8.04.2 with KDE 3.5.10. I have Samba running on the Linux box. I have folders shared on both the XP box and the Linux box. Here is the problem.

When I look at the network from the Linux box I can see the XP machine and shared drives in Dolphin. I can even browse the folders and see their contents. While I cannot open a file in the sahred folder I CAN cut and paste it from the XP machine to Linux box using Dolphin and open it there.

When I look at the network from the XP box I see the Linux machine and the shared folder but when I try to open the folder a login screen pops up and I am prompted to enter a UN "username" and PW "password" to connect to the shared folder on the Linux Box (rob-desktop). When I enter the UN and PW the login window returns and the PW line now reads "ROB-DESKTOP\username". PW line is blank but even after entering PW nothing happens except the login window keeps poppin up.

Bottom line: I can't access the linux box from XP but I can access the XP box from Linux machine.

Any thoughts on how to open up a path both directions? BTW Firestarter is NOT running on Linux box. I would like to turn it on but I have no idea how to keep samba connection.

Thanks!
