Ok for the past few days I've been looking up and down the web/net (which ever you call it.) I need to find a program that works with the what you see is what you get method. Kinda like dream weaver. Does any one know of one? (that works for ubuntu of course.)

You might try Kompozer (http://kompozer.net/) which was formerly N/VU.
It's in the repositories.

go to this link: http://linuxappfinder.com/alternatives?search_text=dreamweaver
you just type the windows program on the left and it gives you the Linux alternative

KompoZer is a good program. But there is a nasty bug at the moment which renders it pretty much unusable i'm afraid.

That is only for the stable version, and only because it uses an old version of GTK (GTK 2.12). Get the development version, as it doesn't have the bug.

The bug is in v0.7.10.

It isn't just me, as there is loads of duplicate reports of this bug on launchpad.

Basically, when you go to insert an image it kompozer closes :(. It also happens with insert special character and several others.

Just use open office. Made the page and save as HTML. Easy. (You link to other pages the same way you would if you were making a normal document). I have build whole websites for school every quickly and easily that way.

The windows version (http://kompozer.net/download.php) of kompozer runs fine under WINE, and you don't have to worry about that nasty little bug. I have also heard that composer (part of the sea monkey suit in the reops) runs fine, but I have yet to try it.

I haven't had any issues with it. Happily being regularly using it for about 3 months or so.
