View Full Version : [gnome] Nautalis as a desktop alternative

Is there a way to setup nautilus (or any other program) to replace the concept of a desktop?

Here is what I mean. I would like a window that I could put icons and launchers on that was completely devoid of any text (it could have a title bar if windowed). It would either need to be transparent (best option) or be able to take background images itself.

Think of it as a desktop in a window.

If made fullscreen, it would look and act like it was a desktop.
If minimized, it would be as if you had no desktop.
If multiple instances were open, I could have multiple desktops for task specific purposes. (One per project is how I would use this)

Any ideas on how to do this?
