View Full Version : [all variants] Intrepid Server & Jinzora on a laptop?

Hi Folks!

As an experiment, I made my desktop a LAMP to serve Jinzora to the other PC's in the apartment. I really like it! (as does the wife... bonus!)

So, I have an older Compaq AMD XP2000+ desktop laying around and a freebie Dell Latitude 4000 with a borked screen.

Because we don't have a lot of room, I'd like to set the laptop up with Intrepid Server and Jinzora. Now, I know the specs on the laptop are good enough, but how do you guys and gals think an old laptop will hold up being on all the time and acting as an internal Jinzora and file server?

Technically laptops are not designed to run 24/7.

There are several people using laptops as servers.

If it was free who cares? :)

I would just make sure you have backups of your media. Perhaps attach a USB hard disk with it's own power supply for the media.

I was going to do the same exact thing. I had trouble with sound drivers.

I hope it works out. I am interested in your progress, please follow up with this thread since Jinzora is in the title.

I put this off to the side for now. Turns out, the hard drive was flaky too. :(

I'll probably try this one out at a later date.
